Here is a description of a wine bargain I bought in Copenhagen at Oxholm-Vin recently. The wine is produced by Coume Del Mas from beautiful Collioure in southern France. The vineyard consists of 12 acres and was started by the Gard family in 2000. Philippe Gard originally an agricultural engineer discovered and acquired an area of very old vines. Production is small but very high quality wines produced. Production is small but very high quality wines is produced.
The tasted wine is made from 100% Grenache has a beautiful red color and the smell is harmonious with a nice fruitiness and hints of raspberries and sage. The taste has a nice length and silky tannins washes over the mouth with accompaniment of raspberry, sage and caramel. A really nice example of what this relatively unknown appellation can produce when it is at its peak. Coume Del Mas wines are well worth looking for.
Do you desire to visit this part of France? I can heartily recommend a visit to Collioure. Beautiful port, great setting, good food and fine wines.
