Riesling on top from Alpland!

Wine tipsPosted by Per-Olof Diderot Tue, May 27, 2014 20:57:59

Riesling is a true favorite grape, which unfortunately is hard to find with great quality under 10 euros. And being produced in Austria is a big plus. While big brother from Germany usually takes all Riesling credit, Austria mostly produce very elegant Riesling wines that shows what their terroir can really offer. Personally I find their Rieslings usually are superior to domestic grape of Gruner Veltliner, despite what some experts tells me, but I am also a true Riesling Lover. So when I got the opportunity to test ( sample ) the below described Riesling, launched in Sweden 2nd of June, I was not particularly difficult to persuaded.

Domäne Wachau
The producer has a history of over 300. The winery is one of the better known from Austria and exports almost half of all the wine produced. Domäne Wachau is deeply rooted in the Wachau region. Close to 420 acres of vineyards are cultivated by members of this qualitative cooperative whose area occupies more than 30 percent of the area planted with vines in the Wachau. Wines are located on steep terraces held up by old stone walls which now belong to a protected world cultural heritage.

Domäne Wachau Riesling Smaragd Terrassen (nr 4622) för endast 119 kr
Light yellow color with pure mineral nose with hints of fresh apricots. The taste is deliciously dry, perfect acidity together with a nice fruitiness of mainly peach together with honey, citrus and elegant minerals. For this money, it is a given Riesling bargain. Perfect for a delicious summer salad, both with seafood or poultry. Will be a given wine-selection for this summer's festivities.
