Barbeque/Braii red 1.0 - Easy birdie from Ernie Els Wines

Wine tipsPosted by Per-Olof Diderot Tue, March 27, 2012 22:16:45
Golf and barbecue season goes hand in hand. Unfortunately, it was neither this weekend for me because of a bad, bad virus. But this weekend its finally barbecue premiere And to the grilled steak I need a powerful red wine and with finesse.
One of my golf heroes "The Big Easy" from South Africa does more well fit the description with the above characteristics, even if we're talking about two such different things as golf and wine.

Ernie Els Wines has been producing wine since 2000. Large investments from Ernie was carried out while the brilliant winemaker Louis Strydom had the freedom and great opportunity to create some of the best South Africa reds you can get.
I have once been the property located on Annandale Road high up in the Helderberg Mountains near Stellenbosch. The view from the property is breathtaking and you can understand that the wines have perfect conditions with plenty of sunshine and a nice cooling during the night. I have previously written about the property's Big Easy Red and Engelbrecht-Els Red, but now the chance is given to their pure Cabernet Sauvignon. The world's most widely planted red wine grape that in my view, often is to predictable as a single grape wine. Now, lets find out how they have made the challenge!

The wine has a dark red color with lovely aromas of dark berries and pepper. The taste is fabulous with a balanced fruitiness combined with a great body and charming flavors of plums, cedar, black pepper, dark chocolate and rosemary. This power package is rounded up with structured tannins, which makes the assessment very clear. A really good wine, that makes it an easy birdie from Ernie and can be enjoyed now or stored in the cellar a few years. Promise me take this opportunity to buy it as it will soon be sold out.

Finally a new great proof that South Africa can produce wines with restrained fruit and absence of smokiness. Congratulations to the wine maker, who reached the celestial heights with this Cabernet Sauvignon. A must for a fantastic Braii/Barbeque.

I want to go to South Africa soon again, meeting my best friends Johan/Danelle and enjoy a good glass of red wine with them in the African sunset!
