Amazing Sicilian vacation nearby Cefalu!

To lifePosted by Per-Olof Diderot Mon, April 17, 2017 16:51:06

Are you planning a visit to the wonderful Italian volcanic island of Sicily this summer? I that case I have some vacation tips to pass on to you.

We visited Sicily for the first time last summer and fell in love with its beauty, the sea, the people, the food and the volcanic wines. But how do you start, when the island is that big and has so much to offer? Since we had three adult children and one grandchild with us we had to to find a place that could satisfy us all. After a lot of searching on the web we found a place to stay through Airbnb, a family paradise by the sea 20 minutes drive west of Cefalù.

The property called Casa Vacanze Mare Nostrum is owned by the absolutely wonderful family Longo. www.claudiolongo.com Claudio, the son, speaks excellent English and can give you good advice on how your journey is to be as successful as possible. Casa Vacanze has houses / flats for rent in different sizes and with a magic pool facing the sea. If you feel like spending time at sea, there is the miles-long beach located 50 meters from the pool area.
A paradise for us who love to swim, walk, enjoy beautiful sunsets and collect stones.

When you take your car out on the road there are two grocery stores nearby and I can guarantee you will be happy about their choice of products. Towards the west on the way to Palermo is the best wine/meat/cheese store, while the store towards east on the way to Cefalù offers a divine selection of seafood (their swordfish is the finest I ever got hold of).

What is in the vicinity of this Mediterranean pearl?
A visit to the picturesque town of Cefalù is just a must. You park down at the beach front and walk into the city center facing a unique view. Walking in the streets and go up towards the top of the city where the Cathedral Chiesa di Cefalù is. Enter the church and enjoy the beauty, you might even get to experience a genuine Sicilian wedding with all the well-dressed guests. When you come out of the church, walk down the stairs and keep to the left side of the piazza. Here is a sacred place for all ice cream lovers. Probably the world's best ice cream are served at Serio Bar Dumo Gelatieri who will do everything to please you.

Shopping
Must be mentioned, because a holiday without good shopping opportunities are a no no. We drove to http://www.siciliaoutletvillage.com/it (from Casa Vacanze it takes one hour and fifteen minutes). With more than 100 stores it's well worth visiting. Are you hungry for big city shopping feeling a visit to Palermo can be recommended. http://www.forum-palermo.it/.

We will return to this lovely place many times in the future, that good was our stay. But enough for now. If you have questions you are more than welcome to contact me, I promise to try and help. Grazie famiglia Longo smiley

World Cup in football - Many ways to reach the goal!

To lifePosted by Per-Olof Diderot Thu, June 12, 2014 20:29:42

As an old ex football player, I love football more than most things. The feeling to approach the football pitch with a freshly cut lawn, sit in the locker room with the scent of liniment and hear team players chat is something you will miss for the rest of our lives. But you can also get a good dose by looking at the upcoming football World Cup.

To get going before today's opening match between host nation Brazil and Croatia, I got this video link from my Croatian (Hrvatska) friend. Talk about technology that teams that did not make it to the World Cup can focus on to reach their goals in the future. Enjoy and good luck to all teams playing. My thumbs for Italia and France...

My passion 4 life!

To lifePosted by Per-Olof Diderot Sat, February 08, 2014 19:26:31

What's your passion in life?
Life is too short not to find passion, no matter where you find it. In our current society, there are too many individuals who only live for likes on Facebook instead of being passionate about life itself.

Hot Yoga
I have two great personal interest that affects my life in a very positive way. One is Hot Yoga that has led me to nurture both body and soul in a satisfactory manner. To be enclosed in the hot room for 90 minutes, and to be challenged and bruised while the sweat dripping over me is better than everything else. The balance between the improved strength and flexibility is something that everyone can benefit from, regardless of age. Now 52 years, I feel stronger than in many years. In addition, Yoga have proven positive impact also on mental health. Have a hard time finding anything equivalent to Hot Yoga for cognitive therapy being in a 40 degree C hot room with a full physical challenge and "just focus on your breathing."

Wine
How can I justify the consumption of wine (2:nd passion in life). Alcohol is undoubtedly harmful to the body when consumed in excess. But wine also has many positive effects. Besides giving me a further dimension to food, wine is a source of curiosity and constant search for new knowledge and experience. Undoubtedly wine also have positive effects on health.

Yin och Yang
So my passion for Hot Yoga and wine is like my personal Yin and Yang. And I intend to continue with that passion as long as I live. Because I feel good and happy when I get to fire without being burned out...

Tuscan salad with tabasco rooster!

To lifePosted by Per-Olof Diderot Wed, January 16, 2013 18:47:59

Would have been to surgery today to make some small repairs to my face, but it was canceled at the last minute. So some substitute with evening blogging instead.

Last weekend we tested our newly purchased Tefal Actifry fryer that you only need a tablespoon of oil for frying an entire kg potato wedges.

Tuscan salad with tabasco rooster

Start by using two smaller bags of pre-cut Tuscan salad in a salad bowl. Add organic chickpeas and hominy along with your favorite olive oil and add rose-pepper dressing. Cut the rooster filet (600 g) into small cubes and mix with a tablespoon of olive oil, one tablespoon white wine vinegar and a half tablespoons Tabasco. Pour the rooster mixture into Tefal ActiFry and let the machine do the work for 20-25 minutes (while watching the TV news). You can of course us the frying pan also but with more olive oil with a little butter and full your attention. Pour the lovely lightly fried rooster in the salad, mix and finish with a little finely grated pecorino. The tastiest salad we've eaten in a long time, and it takes max 30 minutes to do it...

Wineblogg invest in an ActiFryer

To lifePosted by Per-Olof Diderot Mon, January 14, 2013 21:20:16

Have long been thinking of purchasing a fryer but the fat increase in the diet has kept me from buying it. Therefore it came as a surprise for me that its now possible to buy a fryer super light. Tefal ActiFry is developed to fry your food using only 1-2 tablespoons oil. You create the base and then the fryer takes care of the rest.

Must admit I had doubts when reading tests that you only nedded to use one tablespoon of olive oil for a kilo of French fries / potato wedges. But to my great surprise, it really worked...

I will return later in the week with a few recipes. Well worth the investment, as the family will get great pleasure from it and also a healthy one. The version I bought withstand 1 kg potatoes, but there is also a family version that manage 1.5 kg.

If only one word!

To lifePosted by Per-Olof Diderot Sat, October 06, 2012 18:06:21

If only one word. Love!

- To be able to write and express my self freely
- To live out my passion
- To family and friends
- To me beloved
- To life

As a blogger, I write more than happily and finding words that express one's feelings is a great pleasure. Therefore, I have been thinking if I would write a poem that compresses my thoughts further. So now I let go of my desire.

Our love is like a rainbow,
with all its nuances.
Our hearts beat for each other.
If so, only for a moment,
it feels like an eternity.

One day!

To lifePosted by Per-Olof Diderot Thu, September 13, 2012 19:28:12

My dear wife has just arrived home from a business trip in Asia. And I came to think of how wonderful the world is with all the similarities while at the same time huge differences. And there is the allure of life on our planet. In what ever continent, nation, country and religion we may belong to, we are all the same...

One day!
